Codecov: Metrics dashboard

The Codecov Metrics dashboard opens in an editor tab. It compares the coverage of your current branch with the default branch and charts the coverage of recent commits. The dashboard follows the IDE theme.

Open the dashboard

Open Codecov Metrics

  • In the Project tool window, click Codecov Metrics (the Codecov logo) at the right end of the toolbar.

  • Press Ctrl+Shift+A (macOS: ⌘ ⇧ A), type Codecov Metrics and press Enter.

The button is disabled until the plugin detects the project's Codecov repository. For the connection steps, see Codecov: Install and connect.

The dashboard uses the IDE built-in browser (JCEF). If JCEF is not available, the dashboard does not open. Make sure the IDE runs on the bundled JetBrains Runtime, which includes JCEF.

Pull request impact

The top of the dashboard compares the current branch with the repository's default branch on Codecov. The header reads, for example, "Compared feature/retry-client vs main". Three cards show the result:

HEAD

Total coverage of the head commit.

Patch

Coverage of the lines changed in the branch. A dash (—) means that Codecov reports no patch coverage.

Change

Difference in total coverage from the base: a green up arrow for an increase, a red down arrow for a decrease.

Click View on Codecov ↗ to open the head commit on Codecov in your browser. To open the current branch on Codecov instead, right-click anywhere in the dashboard and select Open in Codecov.

To find the comparison on GitHub, the plugin first uses the pull request of the branch, if you checked it out with the GitHub CLI or the GitHub plugin of the IDE. Otherwise, it compares your current commit with the point where the branch left the default branch. If Codecov has not processed your current commit yet, it uses the newest commit of the branch that Codecov has processed.

On the default branch, or when Codecov has no comparison, the dashboard shows "No Codecov compare report available for the current branch."

Coverage trend

The chart shows the selected metric for each commit that Codecov processed, oldest on the left. Its title names the time range and, if selected, the branch, for example "Coverage Trend (Last 3 months)".

  • Hover over a point to see the short commit hash, the date and the value.

  • Click a point to open the commit on Codecov.

When no commits match the filters, the chart shows "No commit history to display."

Filter the trend

The toolbar above the dashboard has three filters:

Metric

Percentage (default), Total Lines, Hits or Misses.

Branch

All branches by default. Select a branch to chart only its commits; favorite branches are listed first and marked with a star. The list shows branches from Codecov, not your local Git branches. To chart all branches again, click the close icon (×) next to the branch name.

Time range

7 Days, 30 Days, 3 Months (default), 6 Months, 12 Months or All Time.

The filters are saved per project.

On the right of the toolbar, Show Coverage on Folders turns folder coverage on or off. Refresh reloads the dashboard, the branch list and folder coverage.

When you switch Git branches, the dashboard and folder coverage refresh automatically.

Coverage drop notification

After a Git change on a branch other than the default branch, such as a new commit, the plugin waits until Codecov has processed the current commit. If total coverage is lower than on the latest commit of the default branch, a warning appears: "Codecov: Coverage drop detected". It names the branch and the drop, for example "Total coverage for branch feature/retry-client decreased by 0.42%."

Click View PR Impact Details in the notification to open the dashboard. The plugin warns once per commit. To change how the warning is shown, go to Settings | Appearance & Behavior | Notifications and find Codecov notifications.
