JirAI: Agent skills

A skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file that tells an AI agent how to do one job.

JirAI ships three skills and copies them only into the folders you choose.

The skills

/use-virtual-board — Use the virtual board

Shows the agent's plan and progress live on the JirAI virtual board.

/jira-ticket — Check a Jira ticket

Checks a Jira ticket against your team's rules before the agent files it, with the agent tools.

Useful once a Jira site is signed in.

/work-on-jira-issue — Work on a Jira issue

Shows a Jira parent's children on the virtual board and asks before every Jira change. See A board linked to Jira.

In Codex, type the skill with $ instead of /, for example $use-virtual-board.

The one-time offer

The first time you open a project while the IDE's MCP server is on, JirAI asks once: Add JirAI skills to your AI agents?

  • Click Choose… to pick the skills, the agents and where they go.

  • Click No thanks to write nothing.

Nothing is written until you choose where. Closing the notification counts as an answer; you can still add the skills later.

When a later JirAI version adds a skill and you said yes before, a New JirAI skill: … notification offers Add…, preset to your earlier agents and level.

If you said no before, the new skill is listed as available in Settings instead.

Add skills

Add JirAI skills to your agents

  1. Choose Tools | Add JirAI Skills to AI Agents…, click Add Skills… in Settings | Tools | JirAI | Agent Skills, or click Choose… in the offer.

  2. Under Skills, select the skills.

  3. Under Agents, select Claude Code, Codex, Copilot CLI or Junie.

JirAI preselects each agent it finds on your machine.

  4. Under Level, choose where the skills go:

    For me, in all projects

Your agents' folders in your home folder.

    This project, only me

The project's folders, with a line in .git/info/exclude so Git ignores them. Needs a Git repository.

This project, shared through source control

The project's folders, visible to Git. Commit them to share with your team; JirAI does not commit.

  5. Check What Will Be Written, which lists every folder and what happens to it, and click Add Skills.

  6. The result notification tells you how to start, for example type /use-virtual-board. Claude Code may need /reload-skills or a new session; Junie may need /skills.

Where the files go

JirAI writes the smallest set of folders, so that no agent reads the same skill twice:

Folder

Read by

.claude/skills

Claude Code; Copilot CLI reads it too

.agents/skills

Codex, Copilot CLI and Junie

.junie/skills

Junie, only when .agents/skills is not written

For For me, in all projects, the folders are in your home folder, for example ~/.claude/skills; for the project levels, they are in the project folder.

Agents started from AI Assistant or Air read only project folders.

Update or remove skills

Settings | Tools | JirAI | Agent Skills lists each skill with its Where, Folder and State, for example installed v2 or edited by you.

Add Skills…

Opens the dialog described above.

Update

Replaces a copy with the current JirAI text. For a copy you edited, JirAI asks first.

Remove

Deletes JirAI's copy. For a copy you edited, JirAI asks first.

Clean up

Deletes what JirAI left of a copy you removed yourself.

  • When JirAI updates, it refreshes your own unedited copies (For me and only me). Shared project copies show update available and change only when you click Update.

  • JirAI never overwrites a skill it did not write, or one you edited, without asking.

  • Open agent sessions may show the old text until reloaded.
