JirAI builds the Create form from the create screen Jira defines for the chosen project and issue type.

The form shows the same fields Jira shows, marks required fields and accepts Markdown in the description.

## Create an issue

Procedure: Create an issue

1. In the JirAI tool window title bar, click + (New Issue).

A Create Issue tab opens in the tool window.

2. Choose the Project: and the Issue type:.

The pickers show each project's avatar and each issue type's icon.

3. Fill in the fields.

A red asterisk marks a required field, and Create stays disabled until every required field has a value.

4. Click Create.

Once you pick a project and an issue type, the tab is renamed after them, for example Create Task — DEMO.

If you change the project or the issue type after entering values, JirAI asks whether to discard them.

When Jira accepts the issue, JirAI closes the Create tab and opens the new issue: its details tab in the tool window and its Timeline tab in the editor.

If Jira rejects the issue, the form stays open and shows the reason.

## Fields the form cannot edit

A few Jira field types cannot be edited in the IDE.

Such a field shows Not editable here yet and an Open in browser link to Jira's own create screen.

If such a field is required, create the issue in Jira instead.

When you have no permission to create issues in a project, or of an issue type, the form says so.

## Write the description in Markdown

The Description field accepts Markdown.

JirAI converts it to Jira formatting when it creates the issue, so headings, bold and italic text, links, tables, nested lists, task lists, quotes, code blocks and collapsible sections arrive formatted.

Procedure: Preview the description

1. Write the description in Markdown.

2. Click Preview on the Description row to see how Jira will show it.

3. Click Edit to return to the Markdown text.

Anything Jira cannot represent exactly is listed as a warning under the field, with the line it comes from.

Warnings never block Create.

## Create a child work item

Use Add child to create a work item under an existing issue.

Procedure: Add a child work item

1. Open the parent issue.

2. Click Add child in the Breakdown section of the details tab, or in the Breakdown tab beside the issue timeline.

The Create form opens with the parent already filled in.

3. Choose the issue type.

4. Fill in the fields.

5. Click Create.

* When only one issue type can sit under the parent, JirAI picks it for you.

* A type that cannot sit under the parent is flagged on the form.

* If you cannot create issues in the parent's project, the form says so.

* If a Create Issue tab with unsaved values is already open, JirAI keeps it and asks you to finish or close it first.

After you create the child, the parent's Breakdown list refreshes.

## Create an issue from a Markdown document

To turn a spec or plan in your project into an issue, use Push to Jira on the Markdown editor.

It opens the same Create form with the summary and description filled in from the document.
